"I worry about my child and the Internet all the time,
even though she's too young to have logged on yet.
Here's what I worry about.
I worry that 10 or 15 years from now, she will come to me and say
'Daddy, where were you when they took freedom of the
press away from the Internet?'"

Mike Godwin, Electronic Frontier Foundation
Source: Luncheon speech given at technology conference,
"New Media Technology: True Innovations or Electric Fork?" on February 13th, 1996.

First they came...

First they came for the hackers.
But I never did anything illegal with my computer,
so I didn't speak up.
Then they came for the pornographers.
But I thought there was too much smut on the Internet anyway,
so I didn't speak up.
Then they came for the anonymous remailers.
But a lot of nasty stuff gets sent from anon.penet.fi,
so I didn't speak up.
Then they came for the encryption users.
But I could never figure out how to work PGP anyway,
so I didn't speak up.
Then they came for me.
And by that time there was no one left to speak up.
